Rule condition shows TRUE in UI but Rule never transitions to SET — survives full restart
N
Build: latest-26221-b25bb3e3, Docker on Synology. Hi, I have a Rule whose Trigger/Constraints reference other Rules via Rule State ... is TRUE. At some point it stops firing. Expanding the rule's condition tree in the UI shows every Trigger and Constraint condition green/TRUE — confirmed live by walking into the room and watching Motion go true in real time. Rule History shows no new SET, just old reset entries. Tried, on the same rule, same evening: recreating the trigger conditions with fresh IDs, recreating the constraint conditions with fresh IDs (flat and wrapped in a new Group — wrapping in a Group produced one SET, but it didn't reproduce on repeat attempts with the same structure), and finally a full container restart with a verified-correct saved rule. Still no SET, even with a fresh live motion event right after the restart. Separately, I found that this rule (and its 10 per-room clones) share identical internal condition/group IDs with each other — leftover from a batch clone done months ago, never regenerated. Not sure if that's related, since fixing the IDs didn't reliably fix the symptom either. Has anyone seen a Rule State condition show TRUE in the UI without the Rule ever producing a SET, surviving a clean restart? Thanks in advance

DynamicGroupController and attributes
therealdbT
Hey @toggledbits I'm back to trying to optimize a couple of things based on dynamic group. First of all, I think I found a typo in the doc: primary_attribute: "binary_sensor.state" primary_attribute_value: | d = false; each id in members: d = getEntity(id)?.attributes?.power_switch?.state or d, d I think the correct code snippet is d = false, All that said, my use case for dynamic groups is to group 3 different climate devices, so I could easily command them at the same time. Commands are good, but sometimes I want to check if any of the devices are on, and that's easily done with a similar snippet as the one you have in the docs. But this is limited to the primary attribute, while I want to have any of the attributes in the group to be driven by a similar logic (while all are null in the group). ie, access hvac_control.mode and see if any of the unit is set to cool, or heat. Is that possible, without re-defining an expression in each of my rules? Thanks!

Reactor (Multi-System/Multi-Hub) Announcements
toggledbitsT
Build 21228 has been released. Docker images available from DockerHub as usual, and bare-metal packages here. Home Assistant up to version 2021.8.6 supported; the online version of the manual will now state the current supported versions; Fix an error in OWMWeatherController that could cause it to stop updating; Unify the approach to entity filtering on all hub interface classes (controllers); this works for device entities only; it may be extended to other entities later; Improve error detail in messages for EzloController during auth phase; Add isRuleSet() and isRuleEnabled() functions to expressions extensions; Implement set action for lock and passage capabilities (makes them more easily scriptable in some cases); Fix a place in the UI where 24-hour time was not being displayed.

Unofficial thread for compatibility
tunnusT
As there are statements about compatibility for home assistant versions in MSR new version announcements (e.g. "HassController: Bless Hass to 2025.7.3"), I thought it would be good idea to track other controllers as well. As an example, I can confirm that build "latest-25208-c53e8513" works with Hubitat Elevation C-8 platform version 2.4.2.134 using Maker API. Updates: (the latest versions first in the list) OK: build "latest-25264-2fbe9217" with Hubitat C-8 platform v. 2.4.3.123

Ooops - Deleted Reactor Ex Machina II
R
I accidentally deleted Reactor Ex Machina II (REM II) from my Reactor rules. I tried to recover it by deleting the .json and .dval in the Rules subdirectory and then recreating it from Togglebits original posting, but that did not work. Does anyone know how to recover REM ll ?

[Solved] DynamicGroupController updating members issue
CrilleC
Edit: Solved in latest-26221. Bare-metal latest-26193 I have this group: "OKforLarm": name: OK för Larm select: - include_controller: vera - include_capability: door_sensor filter_expression: entity.attributes.door_sensor.state It contains the entities I expect but behaves a bit odd. When I open vera>device_10097 the entity attribute door_sensor.state changes to true but it won't show up as member in the group, when I also open vera>device_10095 they both shows as members and when I close vera>device_10095 it disappear from the group but when I close vera>device_10097 it lingers in the group until I restart Reactor.

[MSR] Copy&past of actions and/or drag&drop between set/reset
therealdbT
Hey @toggledbits One thing that bothers me while doing work on new systems/new features, is that I cannot copy&paste actions, and I cannot drag&drop between set and resets. #1 is for when I want to copy an action between different rules opened in two separate browser windows, while #2 is when I just need to flip a bunch of actions in the reset, or move some logic back and forth. Both will be appreciated, but I understand the technical challenges. Thanks!

Upgrade advice - upgrade from aarch64 to ARM64 image
T
I'm currently on version 26011. I understand that the aarch64 image is no longer supported. So, I therefore need to update to the ARM64 image. Can anyone possibly suggest how I update my docker compose.yaml file (see below). Ideally I'd like to keep my existing reactions etc. rather than start from scratch. # Multi-System Reactor template docker-compose.yml (version 22160) # # Change the lines indicated by "DO"... # services: reactor: container_name: reactor environment: # DO change the TZ: line to set your local time zone. # See valid TZ list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones TZ: GB # # DO NOT change this path. Your directory location is in "source" below. At first blush, everything you've got there looks correct to me, and I would not expect the lights to go on during your "exclude" hours.

Some quick mental notes I made while reviewing:

    1. The XOR might be overkill in that last group; OR should suffice, since a day cannot be both a Weekday and Weekend;
    2. I prefer placing time constraints in Constraints, with the faster-moving conditions in Triggers;
    3. When you click on STATUS, does MSR throw you any warning message concerning host time vs. browser time?

Other than that, I got nothin' for ya at this early hour of the morning. 🙂

OK. Keep in mind that there's no guarantee to the order of rule evaluation. If two rules A and B both have conditions for 05:30, there's no guarantee which will be evaluated first. If it happens that B also depends on A directly, or on something A does, it's possible that if B is evaluated first, it will be looking at the "old" state of A because it hasn't updated yet. This may cause B to do some unexpected reaction. And worse, a moment later, A will be evaluated to its new state, and then B will see A changed and re-evaluate to the correct, expected state. This will happen so fast that the only way you'll see it is by examining the logs (or, you can add Notify/Alert actions to your reactions as a poor-man's debug stream). Leaving a wider window on time conditions can help with this as well. Other mitigation strategies may include moving time conditions that are often repeated into a rule, and then using the rule instead of the date/time condition(s).

In this particular case, you also don't really care if it's 5:30 in the constraints. You're thinking that way because that's when your day mode changes, but in fact, your time tests should probably just be before 6:30 and before 7:30. This would not be true if your "night" mode starts after midnight, but if it starts before, you're being too specific here.

If you don't change it to before, then put your ending times back to 6:30 and 7:30. You don't need to change those.

@toggledbits Wouldn't be the first time I've over-complicated the thinking...

This is where I am now given 99% of the time NIGHT is invoked before midnight. My m-i-l always says "nothing good happens after 9pm" 😉

@librasun There was no joy in Muddville... and then I got to staring at the rule and realized, in setting it to before 6:30 and before 7:30 we'd lost the not between aspect.

I've adjust the rule to this for testing tomorrow morning:

I'll send @toggledbits a log snip for the ten minute window around this event.

I think I'd "widen" those time slots by another 30 minutes (i.e. 5-7am / 5-8am), and give it another day of testing. Something tells me it's too precise for now, still. Nothing else jumps out at me, but as you've already pinpointed, Logs are your friend as is watching the Rule's live status in RuleSets.

I disagree. Unless the controller is down at the moment, one minute would be sufficient widening to prevent a race condition. There's something more here than meets the eye.

@gwp1 if you're going to send logs, don't snip, send me the whole thing, and also send all rules involved (if you click on the rule name in the Rule Sets list, it shows you the rule ID under the conditions -- there's a JSON file in your reactor/storage/rules with that ID as its base name).

Actually, before we go any further, look at this more carefully:

Let's say for the sake of argument that it's 4am. Your "not between" conditions are going to be true (4am is not between 5:30 and 7:30), so the condition is true, and that means your "exclusion" isn't.

For me, based on what I understand your intent to be, and working within the existing structure, you really want these to be after operators with the earliest time you're willing to accept the lights coming on.

@toggledbits Hmmm... that's an interesting approach. Mode + After alarm time = lights allowed. Let me try that.

Edited to add screenshot of updated ruleset:

@gwp1 Sadness abounds. Lights this morning. I've emailed @toggledbits the logs he requested in full.

Of note: when I was originally creating this rule I noticed something with the Weekday and Weekend "button/links"... when saved, the days chosen by using those were blank again. Only way I could save them visibly was by manually checking them. I should have filed a bug - work intervened and then it slipped my mind. Perhaps unrelated - perhaps not, if the choices aren't really saved.

The log shows that this rule set at 20:28 and ran the "Rainstorm Lights ON" reaction from its set reaction. It remained set until 22:55, when it reset and ran the "Rainstorm lights OFF" reaction from its reset reaction.

The rule remained reset for the remainder of the log. It did not set at 05:30 or any other time, it did not start its set reaction or the "Rainstorm Lights ON" reaction it references.

However, the "Rainstorm Lights ON" reaction was run by another reaction at 05:30. So you've got a mention of this somewhere. I can't easily tell which (I'd need a higher level of debug), but it is probably one of active objects (or something they start):

Yes, makes sense as this rule gets included in the @sunset rule for those two lights it controls. That would be sunset (20:28 until sleep time 22:55). Reaction Sunset light group on contains the rest of the lights that come on at sunset, of which this is a subset.

I'll look at what's happening at 05:30 (IIFC it's just a mode change ruleset).

Rule Notify: Mode Day ON<SET> This is the 05:30 mode change
Rule Notify: Mode Night ON<RESET> I would gather this is Night Mode ON deactivating
Rule Notify: Screened room door<RESET> This is the screened room door sensor alert being turned off after Night mode is deactivated
Cooling All Modes but Night: ON<SET> This is HVAC switching from Night Mode to everything else with the mode change.

Wouldn't it be triggered because of the mode change? Mode (either day or evening) is a trigger for Rainstorm lights ON - but having the time restriction should stop it from turning on those lights, no?

Something ran "Rainstorm Lights ON" at 05:30. It was likely one of the rules or the reaction I listed above, as those were active at the time. The rule "Rainstorm: on, off with UV" was not active at this time, so it did not run it.

@toggledbits Rule Notify: Mode Day ON<SET> This is the 05:30 mode change and the mode change is a condition for the running of Rainstorm Lights ON - but shouldn't/wouldn't the conditions around not before <xx time> belay that order? Would moving the time conditions to Constraints be a better approach?
