Gradually turn on lights.
Tom_DT
I have several lights that I would like to turn on very gradually over 15 or 20 seconds. from 0 to .25 in .01 increments. I have tried a few things that came nowhere near working, so here I am.

Stop the MSR by an external switch on Hubitat.
wmarcolinW
Use case: When performing home maintenance, such as air conditioning, I want all rules involving air conditioning to be disabled. To do this, to day, I have a virtual switch that I placed within all rules involving air conditioning, meaning that if I turn it off, none of them work. Then another situation: the water pump system and garden irrigation, another switch. In short, I had to create several virtual switches in Hubitat to disable rules in MSR. Unfortunately, however, I was unable to cover all scenarios, so I wondered if it would be possible for MSR to support a virtual MSR switch, which, when configured in the reactor settings, would function as a general on/off switch for MSR. If it is configured and turned off, the entire rules and actions in MSR stops working, except for the status change reading process, specifically for this switch, which, when turned on, would restart the MSR. Would it be possible to do something like this? Any recommendations from the experts?

Way to search for rules (rule state) in other rules
T
@toggledbits, not sure if this is a feature request or I'm using the search tool wrong. You have a "Search for rule" in the Rules Set tab in MSR. It works nicely to find a rule and bring up said rule, but can it/could it be used for as a "where used?" global search? For instance, I have a fairly large set of rules, divided up into 10 different rulesets. There's easily a hundred individual rules, and many of the rules have Rule State triggers, which of course refer to other rules. Amongst my troubleshooting today, I came across what may have been a duplicate or troubleshooting attempt, but I can't tell if it's actually used as a Rule State in another rule without opening each rule that I suspect it may be a part of. Thanks.

Links to MSR from HA

I am using Home Assistant a lot recently. On a dashboard showing the devices, I would like to show a link to the MSR rule that controls the devices. Is there a way to link directly into MSR?

Errors after updating to MQTTController build 25139

I'm running MSR build 25139 on Docker, using MQTT controller 24293, and everything working as expected. 🎉 My very first MSR controller: OpenSprinkler
therealdbT
Since today is my birthday - and I still pretend to be unconventional - I'm giving away a present to this wonderful community and I'm releasing my first OpenSprinkler controller for MSR. It was real fun to code it - and while it's still WIP, it seems to work OK for me. It's polling-based at the moment, but I'll add support for updates via MQTT very soon (it's already partially coded). Get it at (install is similar to MQTTController and such): https://github.com/dbochicchio/reactor-opensprinkler Feel free to try it. It's beta software, but it's stable. I'll update it weekly until all the tasks from my todo list are empty. Since I've learnt a lot from this controller, I'll explore new controllers soon.

Advice reqeusted to migrate MSR from Bare Metal to Container
T
Good day all, I'm in the process of trying to shut down my 10 year old Linux home server that served many purposes, but primarily it's what I used for my NAS/Plex Media server. I migrated the NAS aspect of the server in November of last year to a true NAS solution (Ubiquti UNAS Pro), which is rack mount and much more efficient than my old tower, which it's only side benefit was heating my home office during the winter. Unfortunately it also means heating my home office during the summer, which were about to be in full swing. I have two things running on this 10 year old server at this point. MSR and pi-hole. I'm running Plex Media Server on Fedora Workstation in Podman on mini PC, which is much more energy efficient than my old tower. My next step is to migrate MSR. I know there are images of MSR out there, and creating it is well documented. I'm going to be using Podman instead of Docker for various reasons, but they work very similar. What I don't know, is what I need to do to migrate my existing Bare Metal installation over to a container. Has anyone done this? Any advice?

Reactor (Multi-System/Multi-Hub) Announcements
toggledbitsT
Build 21228 has been released. Docker images available from DockerHub as usual, and bare-metal packages here. Home Assistant up to version 2021.8.6 supported; the online version of the manual will now state the current supported versions; Fix an error in OWMWeatherController that could cause it to stop updating; Unify the approach to entity filtering on all hub interface classes (controllers); this works for device entities only; it may be extended to other entities later; Improve error detail in messages for EzloController during auth phase; Add isRuleSet() and isRuleEnabled() functions to expressions extensions; Implement set action for lock and passage capabilities (makes them more easily scriptable in some cases); Fix a place in the UI where 24-hour time was not being displayed.

Organizing/ structuring rule sets and rules
R
Hi guys, Just wondering how you guys organize your rule sets and rules. I wish I had an extra layer to have some more granularity, but my feature request was not popular. Maybe there are better ways to organize my rule sets. I use the rule sets now primarily for rooms. So a rule set per room. But maybe grouping by functionality works better. Any examples/ suggestions would be appreciated.

MQTT configuration question

I have the following yaml configuration in local_mqtt_devices file x_mqtt_device: set_speed: arguments: speed: type: str topic: "command/%friendly_name%" payload: type: json expr: '{ "fan": parameters.speed }' While this works fine, I'm wondering how this could be changed to "fixed" parameters, as in this case "fan" only accepts "A", "Q" or a numeric value of 1-5?

Got it I just connected to the MSR host logging in as me rather than root user and ran the keygen again, it created the two key files in my own .ssh folder now. I will add that to the router and try again. Thanks

Its working now with my own public key added to the router. The local expression now has data. Not sure what the \n is on the end though? It didn't do that in the terminal command line.

@cw-kid the \n at the end is a newline character. Linux is quite literal. You can push that string through the expression int() function and it will convert it to a number and ignore the newline.

No idea what that means, but I will search. I also need to do some thing with that data like round it, as it says"66986" which should read as 66.99 degrees

OK I see what you mean my local expression is a string. But how to change it to int ?

When you create a local expression it gives you no option of the type it should be.

Round doesn't seem to work as the raw data does not have a decimal point in it in the first place.

              image.png

How to add a decimal point then?

I might even create a virtual device (multi-string plugin) on Vera and have MSR send these values to that also, so I can also have a tile in our Home Remote dashboard app showing this data.

You can wrap that in a round() if you only want one decimal (for example)...

                    round( int( RouterCPUTemp ) / 1000, 1 )

Think I just found a bug? try naming a local expression as "2.4GTempRaw" without the quotes in a rule and see what happens. I am stuck and cannot delete the expression or exist the rule. Had to refresh the browser to recover. Should of known not to put a dot in the name LOL.

I might have just corrupted the rule now I cannot add an expression named "24GTempRaw"

Or maybe its the numbers it doesn't like.

This is much more powerful than I imagined. Seems you can send any old linux command like "free" to see the memory usage. I haven't figured out how to extract and parse just a part of the returned data yet though, say just the "Used" memory value.

"303308" is the used memory value, no idea how to extract just that part of the data to another local expression though as its not formatted like JSON data would be.

@cw-kid you're going to have to learn "regular expressions", which are patterns that can be matched in strings. It's another rabbit hole to go down, but here's a specific solution you might build on. Using your response string:

                                    56815b50-e845-45f4-8172-d58a7d3aeb09-image.png

The match() function (refer to the docs) will match a pattern to a string. In this case, the pattern contains "regular expression groups", which are the parentheses and their contents. These groups contain \d+ patterns (you have to specify them as \\d+ as shown because of string escaping in the language)... the \d pattern matches a single digit 0-9, and the modifier + after it tells it to match one or more occurrences — so each \\d+ matches a number made of one or more consecutive digits. So this whole pattern basically finds the word Mem: in the string, then from there finds the six numbers that follow. The 3 in the last argument tells match() to return only the third matched item, which is the number 122712, the amount of free space (it's third in place in the string of numbers based on the header line above it).

You can Google around to find regular expression tutorials.

                                      @toggledbits

Thanks I will take a look at the pattern matching.

I realised I need a Global Expression, for my second rule to trigger from. As I cannot use a local expression that is in one rule as a trigger in a different rule etc.
My second rule will be the one that triggers if the CPU Temp value is greater than 80 and it will notify me by repeated TTS announcements etc.

So I created two new Global Expressions.

The first rule I setup that gets the CPU Temp via the ssh command, now also sends that raw response value to the Global variable as well, that is named "RouterCPUTempRaw" that works fine OK.

However my second Global variable called "RouterCPUTemp" that changes it to "int" doesn't seem to evaluate.

                                      When should it evaluate ?

If I restart MSR then it evaluates then and updates correctly.

                                      image.png

Maybe? its because to test it and force the value to be 81 I sent in this URL to MSR.

                                      http://192.168.1.40:8111/api/v1/variable/RouterCPUTempRaw/set?value=81495

                                      Thanks

EDIT: I guess as a work around I could delete the "RouterCPUTemp" global variable and just have my second rule trigger if the value in "RouterCPUTempRaw" global variable is greater than 80000

EDIT2: I just did that and that seems to work OK instead.

I tried the pattern match in a new test rule, I think I did it correctly but I am just getting null in the expression for some reason.

I don't get any alerts or errors in the notifications area either.

Local expressions are only evaluated when the parent rule is evaluated. The changing of the rawResponse local variable does not cause an evaluation of the other variables. These would need to be global.
