Gradually turn on lights.

I have several lights that I would like to turn on very gradually over 15 or 20 seconds. from 0 to .25 in .01 increments. I have tried a few things that came nowhere near working, so here I am.

Way to search for rules (rule state) in other rules
T
@toggledbits, not sure if this is a feature request or I'm using the search tool wrong. You have a "Search for rule" in the Rules Set tab in MSR. It works nicely to find a rule and bring up said rule, but can it/could it be used for as a "where used?" global search? For instance, I have a fairly large set of rules, divided up into 10 different rulesets. There's easily a hundred individual rules, and many of the rules have Rule State triggers, which of course refer to other rules. Amongst my troubleshooting today, I came across what may have been a duplicate or troubleshooting attempt, but I can't tell if it's actually used as a Rule State in another rule without opening each rule that I suspect it may be a part of. Thanks.

Errors after updating to MQTTController build 25139

I'm running MSR build 25139 on Docker, using MQTT controller 24293, and everything working as expected. 🎉 My very first MSR controller: OpenSprinkler
therealdbT
Since today is my birthday - and I still pretend to be unconventional - I'm giving away a present to this wonderful community and I'm releasing my first OpenSprinkler controller for MSR. It was real fun to code it - and while it's still WIP, it seems to work OK for me. It's polling-based at the moment, but I'll add support for updates via MQTT very soon (it's already partially coded). Get it at (install is similar to MQTTController and such): https://github.com/dbochicchio/reactor-opensprinkler Feel free to try it. It's beta software, but it's stable. I'll update it weekly until all the tasks from my todo list are empty. Since I've learnt a lot from this controller, I'll explore new controllers soon.

Advice reqeusted to migrate MSR from Bare Metal to Container
T
Good day all, I'm in the process of trying to shut down my 10 year old Linux home server that served many purposes, but primarily it's what I used for my NAS/Plex Media server. I migrated the NAS aspect of the server in November of last year to a true NAS solution (Ubiquti UNAS Pro), which is rack mount and much more efficient than my old tower, which it's only side benefit was heating my home office during the winter. Unfortunately it also means heating my home office during the summer, which were about to be in full swing. I have two things running on this 10 year old server at this point. MSR and pi-hole. I'm running Plex Media Server on Fedora Workstation in Podman on mini PC, which is much more energy efficient than my old tower. My next step is to migrate MSR. I know there are images of MSR out there, and creating it is well documented. I'm going to be using Podman instead of Docker for various reasons, but they work very similar. What I don't know, is what I need to do to migrate my existing Bare Metal installation over to a container. Has anyone done this? Any advice?

Reactor (Multi-System/Multi-Hub) Announcements
toggledbitsT
Build 21228 has been released. Docker images available from DockerHub as usual, and bare-metal packages here. Home Assistant up to version 2021.8.6 supported; the online version of the manual will now state the current supported versions; Fix an error in OWMWeatherController that could cause it to stop updating; Unify the approach to entity filtering on all hub interface classes (controllers); this works for device entities only; it may be extended to other entities later; Improve error detail in messages for EzloController during auth phase; Add isRuleSet() and isRuleEnabled() functions to expressions extensions; Implement set action for lock and passage capabilities (makes them more easily scriptable in some cases); Fix a place in the UI where 24-hour time was not being displayed.

Organizing/ structuring rule sets and rules
R
Hi guys, Just wondering how you guys organize your rule sets and rules. I wish I had an extra layer to have some more granularity, but my feature request was not popular. Maybe there are better ways to organize my rule sets. I use the rule sets now primarily for rooms. So a rule set per room. But maybe grouping by functionality works better. Any examples/ suggestions would be appreciated.

Hi! I get this message when I'm on the status tab: System Configuration Check The time on this system and on the Reactor host are significantly different. This may be due to incorrect system configuration on either or both. Please check the configuration of both systems. You are not searching correctly in the Entities list. Your UPS name does not have "nut" in it. Rather than seaching for entities containing the word "nut", clear all fields and select your NUTController instance in the controller filter field.

      Hi!

      A query, my NUT service stops working recurrently, and when I make the query upsc myups@localhost I get the message Error: Data stale.

      To get it working again I have to run upsdrvctl start to restart.

      Has anyone experienced this difficulty?

        The only thing that bothers me is that the UPS drive stops working without explanation, and I had to put a routine in crontab for it to restart every 10 minutes, I find this horrible but it was the only solution from everything I read, and I am not the only one to do it.

          Does the NUTController's system entity show that the connection is down when that happens? If so, and NUT is running on the same host as MSR, it's probably pretty easy to just write a rule that restarts the NUT service when the controller has been marked down for X minutes (sustained for).

            @toggledbits

            The NUT and MSR are in the same HW, but NUT is in a Linux VM, and MSR I run in Windows.

            I was able to build a rule in MSR that analyzes 3 attributes of NUT, that if they stay without changing the content in 5 minutes gives me an alert of failure.

            Strange, when I look at the service, it is all active, what crashes is the UPS driver, so I have to run

            upsdrvctl stop
            upsdrvctl start

            Now, is it possible via Windows MSR to trigger a command in the Linux VM to do this restart? It would avoid having to crontab, only reboot in real failure conditions, and not every 10 minutes.

            Thanks.

              I rescued an Eaton Ellipse ups from work that come back to life with fresh batteries.👍

              Thought it would be easy to get some kind of system status or notification (from Windows) that somehow could be picked up in Reactor or at least in HA. Oh my... what a horror 😱

              After a long time following this guide I got NUT up and running on Windows @wmarcolin (Another VM is not a resonable option here)
              Monitor a UPS attached to a Windows machine

              Then I added the HA integration just to se if it worked and it actually did 😂

              So now I want over the finish line, and install NUTController in Reactor.
              It looked easy, but still, no luck.
              This got me thinking on another possible solution. Reactor already monitors "System Memory" "Uptime" and so on, so maybe it also could monitor Powersource, Battery Level, Charging State? Then let Reactor react with its magic @toggledbits ?
              For a Windows user that seems a lot easier and efficient as Windows just handle my UPS as the battery it actually is so it looked like "a laptop".

              Anyway, here is were I got stuck. No clue what more to try since the Nutserver is up and running and speaks with HA.
              reactor.log gives me two errors:

                Go into the extension directory (ext/NutController) and run npm list and post the output here.

                Also you need to show your NutController config.

                        Hmmm... are you (mis)understanding the way NUTController publishes its data? It publishes UPS info on an entity for each UPS that NUT reports. Here, for example, is the data for a test "dummy" UPS that one can configure in NUT:

                        So you can see it's reporting battery state, power level, current power source, etc.

                        Or are you asking for something else and I'm not getting it?

                          Hmmm... are you (mis)understanding the way NUTController publishes its data? It publishes UPS info on an entity for each UPS that NUT reports. Here, for example, is the data for a test "dummy" UPS that one can configure in NUT:

                          battery_maintenance.charging=false
                          battery_maintenance.rechargeable=true
                          battery_maintenance.replace=true
                          battery_power.level=0.2
                          battery_power.since=1692217178132
                          power_source.source="battery"
                          x_nut_ups.battery_charge="20"
                          x_nut_ups.battery_charger.status="discharging"
                          x_nut_ups.battery_date.maintenance="05/01/2022"
                          x_nut_ups.device_mfr="Dummy Manufacturer"
                          x_nut_ups.device_model="Dummy UPS"
                          x_nut_ups.device_type="ups"
                          x_nut_ups.driver_name="dummy-ups"
                          x_nut_ups.driver_parameter.mode="dummy"
                          x_nut_ups.driver_parameter.pollinterval="2"
                          x_nut_ups.driver_parameter.port="/etc/nut/dummy.seq"
                          x_nut_ups.driver_parameter.synchronous="no"
                          x_nut_ups.driver_version="2.7.4"

                          x_nut_ups.ups_mfr="Dummy Manufacturer"
                          x_nut_ups.ups_model="Dummy UPS"
                          x_nut_ups.ups_status="OB LB"

                          No, I get how NutController works. So far at least...

                          But when I got stuck several times trying to set up NUT I almost gave up. At the same time I remembered seeing some System Info in MSR and if could find data about battery level, charging and so on I would not even need the NUT Installation.
                          And that would be a big bonus for me as I realize that when my NUT installation fails one day it would take me long time to figure it out and also one less process/config to handle.

                          And from System Info I assume we could get info about temperatures, storage levels, fan speeds and so on?
                          This could be used to send warning notifications from MSR.

                          So yes, I was asking something else that come up in my head when I tried to find another way than using NUT. 🙂
