What's missing here that would be useful is the text of "Copy Attributes" prior to making any changes or taking any actions, showing the entity in the wrong state and the all of the attributes as last recorded. I'm also not clear on the timing of this... did it occur with Reactor running while you did an upgrade to HA (so HA version changed)? Also with log snippets, more context up front. There were lines before your first that identified what change to make the predicate re-evaluate. I'm serious when I say you need to give 20-30 lines ahead of what you think is relevant. It's better to post too much than too little.

There's also a hass_states.json file in the logs directory that could/should be preserved if possible. But it may be too late for that at this point.

Ahh sure (as ever, sorry) I don't have the Copy Attributes. I'm really sorry I did think I'd posted a load more lines, but clearly not. I bet you were exasperated

I did try again as something odd happens when I try to copy large blocks from terminal and now I'm told the post is too long.

Reactor was running, but this wasn't an upgrade of HA (that was Sunday) this was updates of various plugins (e.g. Alexa Media Player) which required a restart of HA

Go ahead and grab that attributes and post them now. That will at least tell me what type information the entity has, and how Reactor is processing it.

I'll look at the logs and see if there are any further clues left behind.

So I can see that HA reported the initial state of that sensor on connection as "off" (line 2110 of your hass_state.json.old file). The first mention of the device in your reactor.log is at line 4449 time 12:14:32.197Z, where it looks like you did a x_hass_template.reload from the UI. That completed with a successful response at 12:14:33.512Z. It stands to reason, however, that the action changed the state to "on", because your heating control rule set immediately after that.

On oddity that I haven't seen before is that HA apparently spit out several empty state change notices immediately after the template reload action. I've not seen that before, so it could be new HA behavior. I don't think that should matter, but I can't be sure until I really stare at the code, because usually blank state updates mean the entity has been deleted on the HA side, and that could have side-effects on the Reactor side (like unsubscribing from events).

Does that sensor reliably come up "off" when you restart HA?

I don't believe so, It's been used in several places in HA without issue across restarts. I will see if I can double check that however, as it may simply not have been noticed if it's coming up 'off' and immediately tripping to the correct state.

OK I've just done some digging: When HA restarts, all three sensors

sensor.rachel_primary_region

Go 'unknown'

Someone Home (fairly logically) goes 'Off'

The period of 'Unknown' is about 5-10 seconds before the correct status is realised.

Here's the data from the last restart

It may. I have similar behavior with other Template sensors being 0/null/off at boot.

As a defensive measure, I always make the condition to be sustained for at least 10 secs and/or avoid them being evaluated when ha has been restarted for the last 20 secs.

I rarely use ha templates, so my experience is anecdotal.
