Very newbie man looking for help
-
Hello. First, excuse my english, please. I bought a Vera Edge looking for some way to make a digital ambient thermostat that I could manage remotely without a phone home from the device side. I am very disappointed with that device because all the "official" help of the brand goes in the way of to sign in an account and work with their cloud. I have some computer, network and linux knowledge but all my tests with the hub and a Qubino Flush 1D Relay has been unsuccessful. I connected both and I got to make some basic functions but I see myself very far to get my target. This is my last try to get something before I log in an account in getvera.com and look if I can make some progress in my project following that way.
Can somebody tell me some place where I can learn the basic concepts of this system? Guides, books, videos... Whatever it can help me in my project.
Thank you.

Welcome. The Cloud is integral to the operating model of Vera, sadly. There are scripts to disconnect the cloud connectivity. From memory (it's been a while since I killed mine) you can access locally without authenticating in the cloud so a VPN to your home network might be the way forward.
In honesty, though, I'd stop now and pick a better platform. OpenLuup for example

Hello. Thank you very much for your attention.
Connect to the Vera Edge is not a problem for me, even from outside my network. I blocked its internet connection and I think that this makes very difficult to manage the device, but that's not my biggest problem. I am looking for information about to manage the z-wave devices that I connect. For example, I have connected a Qubino Flush 1D Relay with a thermal sensor. I am able to turn on/off the switch from the Vera Edge but I know nothing about to manage the thermal sensor.
I want to connect the Vera Edge through ssh too, if possible, because I have read somewhere it has a linux system as base. I think that this could increase my knowledge too.Anyway... What is OpenLuup? Can you tell me something about it, please.

OK so three things here:
- The Qubino. Sadly I have no idea how well supported that device is on Vera. Many devices that Vera claim to support do not really work very well. It's possible that you might be able to modify the properties of the device to make it work better, but I'm afraid I have no idea where to start.
- SSH is possible. I would expect this is still the way to do it:
http://wiki.micasaverde.com/index.php/Logon_Vera_SSH - OpenLuup is an Open source home automation system that is similar to Vera but much much better:
Many of us are on this forum because we were banned from the Vera forum for daring to challenge the approach taken by Melih. So far we seem to have been correct. Vera is a dead end and will very soon be un-supported
Good luck!
