Universal Remote Control
-
Evening, everyone. Can't think of a better qualified bunch of people to ask so: What am I going to replace my Logitech Harmony with?
Logitech have stated they are moving out of the market and I am therefore disinclined to purchase the Elite, never mind the price tag....
Requirements are:
- IR control of 5 devices (one of which is somewhat esoteric so learning IR pretty much a necessity)
- Ability to control HiFi as well as video kit (should be covered by 1 but whatever)
- Pre-programmed activities for one button access
- Favourite channels
- Rechargeable (nice to have)
- If it needs a computer to set up: Mac compatible
Anyone got a Pronto they'd sell me?

How about a Virtual Pronto remote? If you can list out your devices - could probably work out if it can do the job.

@a-lurker sadly my device is not listed. Not surprised. It's a Cyrus streamer.
The options seems horribly limited overall for a physical device. I would very much like Vera integration at some point, but still need something physical to grab. Apps on smart phones etc take far too long.

"Cyrus Streamer' - pretty esoteric but it looks like it uses the RC5 protocol. Similar to Marantz. Have you got any Pronto codes that you can post here for the Cyrus like Power On, Power Off, Mute (actual model number may be of use too). I could probably work out what's what from the pronto codes. I use a BroadLink IR transmitter and and a Z-Wave scene controller ie it has buttons that trigger IR macros, turns power on and off to various devices, select inputs via http on the amp, etc. I suppose it depends on how many buttons you actually need to run your gear and what you are trying to achieve?

@catmanv2 I have been keeping an eye on this project. Looks promising. I hope they deliver.
Oh yes. That looks nice. Hopefully comes off and is not too spendy!

Allegedly the RC5 indeed, but never been able to get it to properly work. Sadly no Pronto codes. Mine was retired many moons ago. I have a Logitech that managed, sometimes, to learn some of the codes, but not many of the rest.
I think probably more buttons than most of the controllers I've seen, but interested to see any links? The other thing for WAF is that some of the buttons will need to be dynamic. I love my ZRC90 but no way is that going to cut it

Have you got any sort of IR transmitter available to your Vera or openLuup? Can you get any pronto codes out of the Logitech with some learning device?
One of the problems with RC5 is that it has a toggle bit, which means every second time a button is pushed the code changes.

I'm not aware of being able to get anything from Logitech. One of the things I hated about it was the totally un-necessary cloud based set up. What would I need for the IR transmitter? I guess the Broadlink and some kind of blaster?
Thanks!
