@alminsk Now that you've been working in MSR for a short while it's time to revisit the manual. You'll find things that may not have made sense or that you didn't see a use for now make much more sense.

Focus on how to understand the signs MSR is giving you to help you troubleshoot.

I, too, came from the Vera Reactor plugin. "Same but different" applies here - but in all good ways.

@mgvra I guess my one question is if you just simply ignore the evaluated results of a rule's true/false state isn't that pretty much the same as turning it off?

"If a rule turns true/false but no other rule is there to hear it... does it make a sound?"

I would honestly rather @toggledbits kept his focus on the logic engine - there's plenty of ways out there already to do "pretty", not as many doing such a great job at the "smart".

Stumbled back upon this looking for something else and I wanted to share how I ended up doing this:

OwnTracks>HiveMQTT Cloud-based. They have a free plan that well covers my usage with <10 devices coming and going.

This horse may have been ridden already above and I just missed it but here goes: Is it possible to make Current Alerts click-thru to the offending Ruleset? I had to scramble to do some renaming just so I could figure out what ruleset was having the issue when it got flagged there.

@toggledbits I'm marking this as solved because I watched a couple of the rulesets WIA this morning as the day's temps ramped up.

@CatmanV2 I concur with @therealdb here, I've been using the OwnTracks on iOS via the Hubitat app integrations and it works well. I also use, as a secondary, a Home Assistant integration called iCloud3 which mitigates the 2FA issues you found with iPhone Locator. I've seen no noticeable battery issues (once I had iC3 configured correctly.)

@toggledbits got me into OwnTracks when he had his Logo trial up and running.

They have an API you can call to your station and pull in the data. I drive my HVAC with it, too.

@catmanv2 testing OwnTracks can be accomplished by changing from substantial to move in the app and then, well, moving.

Oddly, extending to the full path returns null even though it's clear there's data "Night".

UPDATE: Gahhhhh, missed it. Needed to add .value. to the path. All good now!

Here is the end result which is exactly what I'd hoped to achieve with the changes operator.

@toggledbits @therealdb I've used this to create a Pushover notification to my watch. This also surfaces in the Current Alerts pane.

I've convinced a friend to join us here in the world of MSR. I'd originally written up a reactor.yaml that included his Hubitat and VeraSecure controllers so he could just drop it in and go. I updated that file with multiple entities for each member of his family, had him install MQTTController, and drop the updated version of the config file into his MSR.

Created an accompanying install doc for the iOS app customized to their setup and it's working brilliantly. His phone is connected to my HiveMQ cluster which connects his household and mine together so we can do shared presence automations across homes.

Love this stuff!

EDIT: took it a step further and offloaded my OwnTracks config file, edited a couple details (UserID, etc) and sent it to all members of his family. He added it to OwnTracks and everyone is identical in setup as far as Regions goes and everything is working smashingly.

STILL love this stuff

I picked up a Hubs last year and began migrating over from my VeraSecure. I saw the handwriting on the, well, forums and thought the time was right esp given the creation of MSR. Tbh, Reactor was the only thing really keeping me on my Vera. My system is now compromised of Hubs controlling devices (with a random rule or two) and then MSR for 99% of the rule logic and Home Assistant for creating nice dashboards (and two MQQT rules for presence.)

FFWD to today and yesterday marked the apparent end of the role my VeraSecure plays in automating my home. One last device to migrate got moved yesterday morning and, like @Alan_F, the remaining life was the two SiteSensors that pull weather data from the Ambient API and the OpenWxMap API to control my HVAC and lighting (I don't use sunrise/sunset, I use solar radiation and it covers me during those times when it's suddenly dark as night in the house due to a storm.)

I'm currently in testing mode of using variable versions of the API calls and so far so good. Just waiting to see if my failover rulesets work should the Ambient API have issues.

I did put the 7.32 beta on the VeraSecure this weekend - not really sure why given how close to EOL it clearly is - but it seemed to actually speed up clicking thru the web UI, so there's that.

@Alan_F - for those virtual devices, as @toggledbits noted, don't forget as a part of your creation process to add it to Maker API - and also to the Alexa and Google apps in the same way if you desire their ability to access them. I still forget to do so from time-to-time.
