I started home automation in 2013 and using Vera controllers from the start. When Reactor plugin became available (super plugin of @toggledbits !!) I transferred all scenes to Reactor.
I must say everything here works still okay and I have a lot of devices, plugins and Reactors. But I fear at some point my Vera's will stop working.
I recognize many of your names here from the Vera forum. I also was banned a couple of years ago.
Recently I decided to switch to Home Assistant. I already transferred some of my zwave devices from Vera to HA and made some new automations.
I must say HA is great and with huge amount of integrations, add-ons, the HACS store and many examples (like blueprints) the opportunites to increase home automation are huge.
HA will be for sure my central system (incl UI)
But... the learning curve is quite steap (YAML is completely different from Lua/luup).
So for the time being I will keep my most complex Reactor automations.
I already found how I can connect/integrate Vera for binairy sensors via webhooks (as an example: changes in my home modes are directly send from Vera to HA).
Now I also want to use some data like sensors or Reactor variables automatically to HA via https requests (put those in Reactor).
I know I can create virtual sensors in HA via templates.
As an example: I have my own PWS with a rainmeter. In Reactor I compare the amount of rain (in mm) in the actual year with historical figures (past 15 years) and calculate the difference actual vs history in % Every day at 0.00h these figures are updated. I defined variables in Reactor and use Multistring plugin (Variable container) to show the data.
I know several specialists in coding with experience in both Vera and HA are active here on this forum.
Who can help me with this ?
I’ve set up an automation in Apple Home to turn on the lights when the first person arrives. However, the lights also turn on when I leave for work. It seems like the automation is triggered when I cross the geofence, whether arriving or leaving.
I’m using Matter-compatible Tapo smart plugs. Is there a way to fix this behavior?
When on my bare metal RPi with MSR I had a rule that ran every minute to check Internet status via a script in MSR called reactor_inet_check.sh
I've moved to containerized MSR and see in the instructions that this cannot be run from the container.
The script cannot run within the Reactor docker container. If you are using Reactor in a docker container, the script needs to be run by cron or an equivalent facility on the host system (e.g. some systems, like Synology NAS, have separate task managers that may be used to schedule the repeated execution of tasks such as this).
I've put a script on my container host that calls the reator_inet_check.sh script and it isn't erroring... but I still see the internet status within MSR as null.
Before I go diving down the rabbit hole... should this work?

My first issue: I'm logged into the msr CT as reactor (I used the suggested username just to keep things simple as this is new space for me and I was high off my success of migrating HA over).
When I run
docker pull toggledbits/reactor:latest-amd64... it assigns the \reactor\ subdirectory where installed root ownership. I am absolutely logged in with the correct non-root user.

Second issue: I copied over the following folders:

When MSR loads, all of my Global Expressions are missing.
Third issue:
All controllers connect wonderfully (Hubitat, etc)... except HA.
After changing ownership of the logs to reactor again I can see this when MSR calls HA:
Yes, I created a fresh new long-lived access token for the MSR containerized install and updated the reactor.yaml config file correctly.
Honestly, all-in-all, for my total lack of expertise here I'm very pleased that I only have these three issues. But they are def blockers atm.
My RPi bare metal install of MSR hooked right up to the new HA and is humming along just fine (I used hostnames were possible and shuffled some IPs in other places so I wouldn't run into things later that were mapped incorrectly that I'd forgotten about.)

The issue was the lights on my drive appeared to be randomly switching on, with nothing from MSR logging and just a simple 'turn this on' in Openluup logs.
Finally got to the bottom of it this morning, which might help someone.
Turns out that somehow Alexa has decided that my drive lights are part of my Living room. If I tell her 'Living room lights on' the drive lights also come on. And if I tell her to turn them off, they also go off.
Which is madness because they are NOT in the living room group.
Current solution is to disable the drive lights in the Alexa app, which is fine as I never need to voice control them.

Just bought a couple of generic smart plugs and set them up easily using SmartLife app in the house I then plugged one into a workshop over 100m away This workshop has a hardwired internet connection with a separate wireless access router (not mesh) after doing a reset on the device and pairing to the new router it actually works from the house when my phone is connected to a completely separate wifi network - how is that possible ?
I did read something about these devices connecting to a server somewhere in China similar to IP cameras but there is no lag
I may have posted this in the wrong section. MSR running on Bare metal Debian bullseye. Both Openluup and MSR are on the same device (an Intel NUC) at IP 192.168.70.249. Any suggestions as to where I go to resolve?

.249 IP address is the internal IP of the NUC that hosts both Openluup and MSR.
Any thoughts as to how I can troubleshoot this? It's not a big deal, but would like to get to the bottom of it.

I was looking at an old rule and I wanted to edit it, to add another Constraint, however I cannot seem to do it.
On this screen shot you can see an existing entry in the Constraints and on its pull down menu the "Changes" option is available.

However on the new line I just added I have no changes option in its pull down menu.

If you look on the old screen shots on that post, I was using the "changes" operator. Like this:

However today when I edited this rule the operators are showing as == and not as changes on all the entries in the Constraints area.
Also the old entries now say -- and the value is blank. But on the new line I just added it says that is not valid, so not sure how the old lines are like that.

Build 24343 has fully HTTP actions, so cool things could be created (see docs). I've recently changed a couple of cams because better definition and I've found tha Reolink has a couple of cams that have spotlights. While the spotlights are driven by motion (so the cam could record in color), I wanted to drive them directly, so in case of any "security" event, like alarm on, door open, etc, I could use the lights to have a better video and make - you know - light.
So, if you want to use HTTP actions in VirtualController, just go to config, entities under your VirtualEntityController section in reactor.yaml, and add this:

Having to rebuild my Linux Debian box as the SSD failed. And I have forgotten exactly what I did the first time to get it all setup.
I have Debian 12 up and running on the new SSD, I only have console no Desktop GUI.
I am trying to do the bare metal install for MSR. However I am not sure if I am meant to install nodejs whlist logged in as the root user or as the none root user with my name ?
I used putty and connected via SSH and logged in as root and I installed nodejs but I think this was wrong as when logged in as my user name and I do a node -v command it says node is not installed or doesn't show any version number anyway.
But when logged in as root and I do a node -v command it does show me its installed and displays the version number. maybe its a path issue for my username and he can't see node is installed?
So now I am thinking I should of installed node whilst logged in as my user name and not as the root user.

As the title says, here's my OpenAI Controller for Reactor:
OpenAI Controller per Reactor. Contribute to dbochicchio/reactor-openai development by creating an account on GitHub.
It supports both OpenAI and Azure OpenAI endpoints. You'll need keys/endpoints, according to each service.
The controller supports multiple models, and each one could be mapped as an entity.
It's quite easy to use, and responses can be stored in variables, for easy access. Or sent to another action (Text To Speech, another endpoint, etc).

I've switched to a virtual entity with both power_switch and string_sensor capabilities to represent the current holiday.
The power switch is used to indicate if it's a public holiday (so, no school/work), while the string sensor is a string with the actual holiday (Easter, Christmas, Halloween, etc - we don't have thanksgiving), mostly to drive lights.
I build it with some static dates (mostly birthdays/anniversaries) and then the dynamics ones are taken from webcal.guru. My lights/scenes are linked to events this way and it's easier to manage it in the long run: just a bunch of group action in the reaction driving the lights. This part is outside Reactor for me (because, legacy), but it's not difficult to completly drive it off a virtual sensor or a custom controller.
I don't know how people are doing this, but I'm lefting a note for the ones looking for a working solution.
In Home Assistant I have an integration that if I add entities to it, I will get the following error in MSR as certain entity values I'm using in expressions are null for a moment. This is more or less cosmetic issue and happens very rarely as I rarely modify that integration on the hass side.

Could I "wrap" hass-entity shown above somewhat differently to prevent this error from happening? Using build 24302.
I’ve set up an automation in Apple Home to turn on the lights when the first person arrives. However, the lights also turn on when I leave for work. It seems like the automation is triggered when I cross the geofence, whether arriving or leaving.
I’m using Matter-compatible Tapo smart plugs. Is there a way to fix this behavior?
