Which exactly is by design?

For me ”by design” is a behavior that is intended by the creator witch means it’s in the design.

Well, suddenly one day all automations didin’t work anymore. I was way behind updating the MSR updates (I guess +150 days or something) because everything was working as it should and I didn’t se the need for updating. I realised that I was not alone but the thread is lost for me now.

So, I had the impression that after a certain time the automations in MSR, if not updated, it will stop to function ”by design” . My guess was that (I could be wrong, that happens) that is probably ”by design” in the code by the creator to force the user to upgrade and not have to deal with questions about old versions. I’m fine with that, it is the creators code, but I can not have something at in my home that suddenly stops working for this reason.
This got me thinking about my options and I went in an another direction. Don’t get me wrong I really like MSR but I’m not there anymore.

@cadwizzard I have notised that myself. Probably by design, and the reason I left MSR.

panel_iframe in configuration.yaml. If you access MSR with HTTP it works in HA with HTTP to Reactor and HTTPS to HTTPS obviously.

Perhaps a dumb question. Can I check from Home Assistant that MSR is up and running? I would like to see that in a status page in HA. I can of course ping the other Pi but it doesn't say anything about the MSR status.

@toggledbits Yes, I am aware of that and this is how I use it with the rules in MSR but for redundancy (and dashboards) I also use the Vera integration in Home Assistant. I have not yet dived into the world of MQTT.

Just for you to be aware.
If you are using plugs (or whatever) in Vera to measure energy for your appliances this is deprecated in 2022.4.0 since the HA integration to Vera is not updated and maintained anymore.

Yes, it can truly be a hard time to keep up with all the changes and sadly that no one maintains Vera no more. The REST sensor can make it live a bit longer at least for now… sensor: - platform: rest name: "ender_kwh" resource: http://IP_OF_VERA:3480...

I use my Vera+ for the z-wave and 433 devices (I even have one in reserve) together with MSR and Home Assistant, working well. If I remember well I think @toogledbits have said he is experimenting with the MSR on Vera but I'm not sure if that is on the table today.

@fanan OT: I can not answer your question but I see that you are using HA 11.2. Do you use the Vera integration in HA as well? If so, how does it work since I have seen some breaking changes in 2021.11 with respect to entities?

@sweetgenius I have the same issue but with Safari 14.2.1. I have to use Chrome on my Mac instead.

@3rdstng I have walked the HA route instead of Openluup. Vera for the devices that are supported by it and HA for the ones that are not supported by Vera. I have connected MSR directly to Vera and the same for HA to Vera which means I see them twice in MSR as described above which could sometimes lead to some confusion. However, I use MSR for all the rules and HA for its very flexible dashboards and support to devices that are not (and will not be) supported by Vera.

My Ezlo+ is collecting dust right now, my system has been more stable than ever with the HA-MSR-Vera system I'm running at the moment.
