Errors after updating to MQTTController build 25139

🎉 My very first MSR controller: OpenSprinkler
therealdbT
Since today is my birthday - and I still pretend to be unconventional - I'm giving away a present to this wonderful community and I'm releasing my first OpenSprinkler controller for MSR. It was real fun to code it - and while it's still WIP, it seems to work OK for me. It's polling-based at the moment, but I'll add support for updates via MQTT very soon (it's already partially coded). Get it at (install is similar to MQTTController and such): https://github.com/dbochicchio/reactor-opensprinkler Feel free to try it. It's beta software, but it's stable. I'll update it weekly until all the tasks from my todo list are empty. Since I've learnt a lot from this controller, I'll explore new controllers soon.

Advice reqeusted to migrate MSR from Bare Metal to Container
T
Good day all, I'm in the process of trying to shut down my 10 year old Linux home server that served many purposes, but primarily it's what I used for my NAS/Plex Media server. I migrated the NAS aspect of the server in November of last year to a true NAS solution (Ubiquti UNAS Pro), which is rack mount and much more efficient than my old tower, which it's only side benefit was heating my home office during the winter. Unfortunately it also means heating my home office during the summer, which were about to be in full swing. I have two things running on this 10 year old server at this point. MSR and pi-hole. I'm running Plex Media Server on Fedora Workstation in Podman on mini PC, which is much more energy efficient than my old tower. My next step is to migrate MSR. I know there are images of MSR out there, and creating it is well documented. I'm going to be using Podman instead of Docker for various reasons, but they work very similar. What I don't know, is what I need to do to migrate my existing Bare Metal installation over to a container. Has anyone done this? Any advice?

Reactor (Multi-System/Multi-Hub) Announcements
toggledbitsT
Build 21228 has been released. Docker images available from DockerHub as usual, and bare-metal packages here. Home Assistant up to version 2021.8.6 supported; the online version of the manual will now state the current supported versions; Fix an error in OWMWeatherController that could cause it to stop updating; Unify the approach to entity filtering on all hub interface classes (controllers); this works for device entities only; it may be extended to other entities later; Improve error detail in messages for EzloController during auth phase; Add isRuleSet() and isRuleEnabled() functions to expressions extensions; Implement set action for lock and passage capabilities (makes them more easily scriptable in some cases); Fix a place in the UI where 24-hour time was not being displayed.

Organizing/ structuring rule sets and rules
R
Hi guys, Just wondering how you guys organize your rule sets and rules. I wish I had an extra layer to have some more granularity, but my feature request was not popular. Maybe there are better ways to organize my rule sets. I use the rule sets now primarily for rooms. So a rule set per room. But maybe grouping by functionality works better. Any examples/ suggestions would be appreciated.

MQTT configuration question
tunnusT
I have the following yaml configuration in local_mqtt_devices file x_mqtt_device: set_speed: arguments: speed: type: str topic: "command/%friendly_name%" payload: type: json expr: '{ "fan": parameters.speed }' While this works fine, I'm wondering how this could be changed to "fixed" parameters, as in this case "fan" only accepts "A", "Q" or a numeric value of 1-5?

System Configuration Check - time is offset
F
Hi! I get this message when I'm on the status tab: System Configuration Check The time on this system and on the Reactor host are significantly different. This may be due to incorrect system configuration on either or both. Please check the configuration of both systems. The host reports 2025-04-01T15:29:29.252Z; browser reports 2025-04-01T15:29:40.528Z; difference 11.276 seconds. I have MSR installed as a docker on my Home Assistant Blue / Hardkernel ODROID-N2/N2+. MSR version is latest-25082-3c348de6. HA versions are: Core 2025.3.4 Supervisor 2025.03.4 Operating System 15.1 I have restarted HA as well as MSR multiple times. This message didn´t show two weeks ago. Don´t know if it have anything to do with the latest MSR version. Do anyone know what I can try? Thanks in advance! Programmatically capture HTTP Request action status code or error
therealdbT
I have a very strange situation, where if InfluxDB restarts, other containers may fail when restarting at the same time (under not easy to understand circumstances), and InfluxDB remains unreachable (and these containers crashes). I need to reboot these containers in an exact order, after rebooting InfluxDB. While I understand what's going on, I need a way to reliable determine that InfluxDB is not reachable and these containers are not reachable, in order to identify this situation and manually check what's going on - and, maybe, in the future, automatically restart them if needed. So, I was looking at HTTP Request action, but I need to capture the HTTP response code, instead of the response (becase if ping is OK, InfluxDB will reply with a 204), and, potentially, a way to programmatically detect that it's failing to get the response. While I could write a custom HTTP controller for this or a custom HTTP virtual device, I was wondering if this is somewhat on you roadmap @toggledbits Thanks!

ZwaveJSUI - RGBWW BULB - Warm/Cold White interfered with RGB settings - Bulb doesn't change color if in WarmWhite state.
N
Hi , I'm on -Reactor (Multi-hub) latest-25067-62e21a2d -Docker on Synology NAS -ZWaveJSUI 9.31.0.6c80945 Problem with ZwaveJSUI: When I try to change color to a bulb RGBWW, it doesn't change to the RGB color and the bulb remains warm or cold white. I tryed with Zipato RGBW Bulb V2 RGBWE2, Hank Bulb HKZW-RGB01, Aentec 6 A-ZWA002, so seems that it happens with all RGBWW bulb with reactor/zwavejsui. I'm using from reator the entity action: "rgb_color.set" and "rgb_color.set_rgb". After I send the reactor command, It changes in zwavejsui the rgb settings but doesn't put the white channel to "0", so the prevalent channel remains warm/cold White and the bulb doesn't change into the rgb color. This is the status of the bulb in zwavejsui after "rgb_color.set" (235,33,33,) and the bulb is still warmWhite. x_zwave_values.Color_Switch_currentColor={"warmWhite":204,"coldWhite":0,"red":235,"green":33,"blue":33} The "cold white" and "warm white" settings interfer with the rgb color settings. Reactor can change bulb colors with rgb_color set — (value, ui8, 0x000000 to 0xffffff) or rgb_color set_rgb — (red, green, blue, all ui1, 0 to 255) but if warm or cold white are not to "0", zwavejsui doesn't change them and I can't find a way to change into rgb or from rgb back to warm white. So if I use from reactor: rgb_color set_rgb — (235,33,33) in zwavejsui I have x_zwave_values.Color_Switch_targetColor={"red":235,"green":33,"blue":33} 14/03/2025, 16:43:57 - value updated Arg 0: └─commandClassName: Color Switch └─commandClass: 51 └─property: targetColor └─endpoint: 0 └─newValue └──red: 235 └──green: 33 └──blue: 33 └─prevValue └──red: 235 └──green: 33 └──blue: 33 └─propertyName: targetColor 14/03/2025, 16:43:57 - value updated Arg 0: └─commandClassName: Color Switch └─commandClass: 51 └─property: currentColor └─endpoint: 0 └─newValue └──warmWhite: 204 └──coldWhite: 0 └──red: 235 └──green: 33 └──blue: 33 └─prevValue └──warmWhite: 204 └──coldWhite: 0 └──red: 235 └──green: 33 └──blue: 33 └─propertyName: currentColor In zwavejsui, the bulb changes rgb set but warm White remains to "204" and the bulb remais on warm White channel bacause is prevalent on rgb set. x_zwave_values.Color_Switch_currentColor_0=204 x_zwave_values.Color_Switch_currentColor_1=0 x_zwave_values.Color_Switch_currentColor_2=235 x_zwave_values.Color_Switch_currentColor_3=33 x_zwave_values.Color_Switch_currentColor_4=33 Is it possible to targetColor also for "warmWhite" and "coldWhite" and have something similar to this? x_zwave_values.Color_Switch_targetColor={"warmWhite":0,"coldWhite":0,"red":235,"green":33,"blue":33} Thanks in advance.

Problem after upgrading to 25067
R
MSR had been running fine, but I decided to follow the message to upgrade to 25067. Since the upgrade, I have received the message "Controller "<name>" (HubitatController hubitat2) could not be loaded at startup. Its ID is not unique." MSR throws the message on every restart. Has anyone else encountered this problem? I am running MSR on a Raspberry Pi4 connecting to two Hubitat units over an OpenVPN tunnel. One C8 and a C8 Pro. Both are up-to-date. It appears that despite the error message that MSR may be operating properly.

    I currently only have an old Rpi 2

    I was only running Node-Red and Java HA-Bridge on the Rpi, but now I have MSR on there also.

    How would that HP T520 compare to a Rpi 2 in terms of speed etc.

    I'd like to buy a decent Intel NUC at some point but not yet.

      If you are on a budget the T520 will run about as fast as a rPi4B for single core applications but slower for multi core. For home automation you probably won't see any difference. But it is definitely much faster than the rPi2 in every aspects. It is a perfect little machine to play around without having to worry about ever bricking it and you can repurpose it for other things later.

      Edit:
      This might be an even better choice:

      A little faster, only with W7ES license but has a 16GB eMMC.

        No it’s not overkill. If you look at the HA forum, you will see legions of people migrating away from the rPI to intel NUC because of the SD card issue. These are very cheap, controller less (therefore cache less, garbage collection less, wear leveling less) NAND flash which have a relatively short lifetime (similar to what Ezio embedded in their updated/downgraded version of the vera). The rPi4 is a bit tricky to boot from SATA but it can be done and if you want a reliable system, you should definitely go down that route.

        A big part of it of course will depend on how much storage writing you will be doing but regardless, mid-long term it’s a bit of a waste. The SSD cards are really designed for digital cameras where pictures are taken until the card is full, transferred and then erased again on a low frequency basis. They are not very good for computing storage use.

        Today with an upgraded system, since the RPi firmware has native support, it is fairly straight forward. There are tons of guides and videos online to help.

          IN reading the MSR docs, I see we'll soon have the capability to import backup files saved from a Vera hub's master Reactor device, thereby auto-creating Rulesets on the receiving MSR.

          I presume the necessary conversion applet (in the form of a .JS script) will be forthcoming as part of the /tools folder under MSR?

          Has anyone tested this feature out yet? I wouldn't mind being a guinea pig, if more data points are required to iron out kinks.

            Indeed that feature is already available. I imported close to 400 rules and it has been pretty smooth. We have ironed out a couple bugs already. But as pointed out in the guides, you really got to go through it all and fix some things as you go. My initial plan was to start fresh but I'm glad I didn't as it has saved me a lot of time. If you have a lot to transfer over I would definitely give it a shot.

              Access to the /tools folder is also one of the challenges for the Synology docker container, and command line access is necessary to run the tool, there is no GUI. It's also a node.js application, and node is not available on the NAS when you SSH in; it exists only within the docker container.

              For the moment, I'm happy to run the import for you, if you email me a recent (preferably new) Luup Reactor backup file via the email address in the "Support" section of the About page in MSR. Agh. Check that. I can't. It needs access to your device data. I'm going to have to work out some kind of GUI for this. Won't be soon....

                Not a high priority on this end, just eager to play. In the meantime, I too shall research what are the options for one to conduct a Terminal session directly on one's Synology NAS. I feel as though this ought to be possible. Will report back any salient findings.

                  I just tested importing all my reactors from openluup, and it worked beautifully! (once i changed the "-" to "_" in the "import-reactor-backup.js" - the manual has that wrong)

                  I'll try enabling some of the less important rules tomorrow. One thing i'll look into is how to have common logic for i.e. light control in multiple rooms.

                    Build 21060

                    Problem Reports:

                    PR 0000074: ContactSensor (Hubitat)
                    PR 0000068: Support HSM (Hubitat)

                    PR 0000072: Support trip and untrip actions for Vera security sensors

                    Enhancements/non-PR fixes:

                    • Capability prefixing in Hubitat device mapping for increased specificity in certain types
                    • Improve the detail card display in the Entities list
                    • Temporary: enhanced logging of all actions performed on entities (e.g. by reactions, Entities list, etc.)
                    • Rule status card: Interval conditions now show date of last trip
                    • Rule status card: Date conditions now show time they are waiting for (may be temporary, maybe we like it and it stays)
                    • "tamper" system capability added

                    Today was a big day for details in device support. A lot of things got combed out, and many of the outstanding PRs addressed.

                    I will make a Synology docker container update tomorrow from this build.

                      Build 21061

                      0000050 - Additional tuning for Hass thermostats; please check

                      Other highlights:

                      • Support for color bulbs on Hubitat, with both RGB and HSL color modes (HSL is native to Hubitat);
                      • A bug in 21060 that caused newly-created rules to not be runnable until Reactor restart has been fixed;
                      • The build number will now be shown in the upper-right corner (previously unused area);
                      • Hubitat and Vera controllers were not passing control to superclass when an action didn't have a controller-specific implementation;
                      • Added new "hs_color" capability for hue+saturation color model (hsl is hs + dimming level);

                      IF YOU HAVE AN OPEN PR from a previously-opened device support issue, please check your PR and, if necessary, performance against this build 21061. I spent a lot of time today tweaking and tuning Hass thermostats, and Hubitat color lights. Yesterday's build included support for modes and HSM on Hubitat. But many of these bugs have no confirming feedback. Some of you are great at getting back to the PR and reporting your findings, good or bad; it would be great if everyone did this, as it's the easiest way for me to track. But the rule going forward is, no news is good news, and if I don't hear from you, I'll close the report.

                        Build 21061

                        0000050 - Additional tuning for Hass thermostats; please check

                        Other highlights:

                        • Support for color bulbs on Hubitat, with both RGB and HSL color modes (HSL is native to Hubitat);
                        • A bug in 21060 that caused newly-created rules to not be runnable until Reactor restart has been fixed;
                        • The build number will now be shown in the upper-right corner (previously unused area);
                        • Hubitat and Vera controllers were not passing control to superclass when an action didn't have a controller-specific implementation;
                        • Added new "hs_color" capability for hue+saturation color model (hsl is hs + dimming level);

                        IF YOU HAVE AN OPEN PR from a previously-opened device support issue, please check your PR and, if necessary, performance against this build 21061. @toggledbits What to do if the PR has already been closed? But we have feedback confirming what was implemented is working.

                        I've opened some PRs again just to leave that feedback.
                        But other times I've not bothered as they were already closed.

                        Wasn't sure what was best thing to do.

                          If it's not closed closed, you should be able to add a note without changing its status. That's why I've been leaving things "resolved" for at least a full day after the build the bug is fixed in. Mantis is new to me, too, so I'm still learning as well.

                            I can't leave a new note or comment on a PR that is currently resolved. For example this one here

                            To leave a note I have to press the Reopen button.

                                    Build 21063

                                    • 0000081: Implement RunLua action (on system entity for each VeraController instance)
                                    • 0000080: Fix a problem running Vera scenes
                                    • 0000075: Limit time delays to 24 hours (a multi-day delay on a schedule, specifically >24 days, could overflow JavaScript's 32-bit signed integer millisecond timers)

                                    Other work:

                                    • Fixed an issue with "changes" operator restoring configured values too literally (was inserting word "null" rather than blank/empty string)
                                    • Progress on getting "set variable" action working. It's pretty much working for global expressions/variables. Still working on rule-based variables. PR 5 remains open.
                                    • A lot of "linting". The old-school software-types will know what I mean.

                                      Can confirm #80 and #81 and "issue with "changes" operator" are all working OK.

                                      I've very nearly moved all my PLEG conditions / actions over to MSR.

                                      I am waiting to be able to use an Expression value in a rule, for my "Master" dimmer virtual devices.

                                      And for the Scene Activation stuff being exposed, for Fibaro Dimmer 2 modules for double / triple click events.

                                      Also need to figure out how to setup a motion activated light rule.

                                        I'm getting close on expressions. 21063 has working Set Variable for global expressions. Rule-based expressions is going to require some fairly large changes to the way evaluation of rules is done (not in the evaluation itself, but how they are scheduled). I could have pulled that off yesterday but it was getting late and the changes are not without risk, so I decided to defer. Once the configuration works, and Set Variable works, then I'll need to integrate the substitution capability into reaction arguments, etc. So still a couple of days, I think. That's PR#5 if you want to track it.

                                        Scene activation is going to be tricky because Vera doesn't expose enough information over user_data or status requests. Doable, for sure, but it will need to be done slightly differently from the way you do it on Vera. It's the same thing openLuup runs into with scene controllers and sl_ prefixed state variables. I don't see a PR for that capability, though. Go ahead and open one.
