[MSR] Rule do not fire

Rule condition shows TRUE in UI but Rule never transitions to SET — survives full restart
N
Build: latest-26221-b25bb3e3, Docker on Synology. Hi, I have a Rule whose Trigger/Constraints reference other Rules via Rule State ... is TRUE. At some point it stops firing. Expanding the rule's condition tree in the UI shows every Trigger and Constraint condition green/TRUE — confirmed live by walking into the room and watching Motion go true in real time. Rule History shows no new SET, just old reset entries. Tried, on the same rule, same evening: recreating the trigger conditions with fresh IDs, recreating the constraint conditions with fresh IDs (flat and wrapped in a new Group — wrapping in a Group produced one SET, but it didn't reproduce on repeat attempts with the same structure), and finally a full container restart with a verified-correct saved rule. Still no SET, even with a fresh live motion event right after the restart. Separately, I found that this rule (and its 10 per-room clones) share identical internal condition/group IDs with each other — leftover from a batch clone done months ago, never regenerated. Not sure if that's related, since fixing the IDs didn't reliably fix the symptom either. Has anyone seen a Rule State condition show TRUE in the UI without the Rule ever producing a SET, surviving a clean restart? Thanks in advance

DynamicGroupController and attributes
therealdbT
Hey @toggledbits I'm back to trying to optimize a couple of things based on dynamic group. First of all, I think I found a typo in the doc: primary_attribute: "binary_sensor.state" primary_attribute_value: | d = false; each id in members: d = getEntity(id)?.attributes?.power_switch?.state or d, d I think the correct code snippet is d = false, All that said, my use case for dynamic groups is to group 3 different climate devices, so I could easily command them at the same time. Commands are good, but sometimes I want to check if any of the devices are on, and that's easily done with a similar snippet as the one you have in the docs. But this is limited to the primary attribute, while I want to have any of the attributes in the group to be driven by a similar logic (while all are null in the group). ie, access hvac_control.mode and see if any of the unit is set to cool, or heat. Is that possible, without re-defining an expression in each of my rules? Thanks!

Reactor (Multi-System/Multi-Hub) Announcements
toggledbitsT
Build 21228 has been released. Docker images available from DockerHub as usual, and bare-metal packages here. Home Assistant up to version 2021.8.6 supported; the online version of the manual will now state the current supported versions; Fix an error in OWMWeatherController that could cause it to stop updating; Unify the approach to entity filtering on all hub interface classes (controllers); this works for device entities only; it may be extended to other entities later; Improve error detail in messages for EzloController during auth phase; Add isRuleSet() and isRuleEnabled() functions to expressions extensions; Implement set action for lock and passage capabilities (makes them more easily scriptable in some cases); Fix a place in the UI where 24-hour time was not being displayed.

Unofficial thread for compatibility
tunnusT
As there are statements about compatibility for home assistant versions in MSR new version announcements (e.g. "HassController: Bless Hass to 2025.7.3"), I thought it would be good idea to track other controllers as well. As an example, I can confirm that build "latest-25208-c53e8513" works with Hubitat Elevation C-8 platform version 2.4.2.134 using Maker API. Updates: (the latest versions first in the list) OK: build "latest-25264-2fbe9217" with Hubitat C-8 platform v. 2.4.3.123

Ooops - Deleted Reactor Ex Machina II
R
I accidentally deleted Reactor Ex Machina II (REM II) from my Reactor rules. I tried to recover it by deleting the .json and .dval in the Rules subdirectory and then recreating it from Togglebits original posting, but that did not work. Does anyone know how to recover REM ll ?

[Solved] DynamicGroupController updating members issue
CrilleC
Edit: Solved in latest-26221. Bare-metal latest-26193 I have this group: "OKforLarm": name: OK för Larm select: - include_controller: vera - include_capability: door_sensor filter_expression: entity.attributes.door_sensor.state It contains the entities I expect but behaves a bit odd. When I open vera>device_10097 the entity attribute door_sensor.state changes to true but it won't show up as member in the group, when I also open vera>device_10095 they both shows as members and when I close vera>device_10095 it disappear from the group but when I close vera>device_10097 it lingers in the group until I restart Reactor.

[MSR] Copy&past of actions and/or drag&drop between set/reset
therealdbT
Hey @toggledbits One thing that bothers me while doing work on new systems/new features, is that I cannot copy&paste actions, and I cannot drag&drop between set and resets. #1 is for when I want to copy an action between different rules opened in two separate browser windows, while #2 is when I just need to flip a bunch of actions in the reset, or move some logic back and forth. Both will be appreciated, but I understand the technical challenges. Thanks!

Upgrade advice - upgrade from aarch64 to ARM64 image
T
I'm currently on version 26011. I understand that the aarch64 image is no longer supported. So, I therefore need to update to the ARM64 image. Can anyone possibly suggest how I update my docker compose.yaml file (see below). Ideally I'd like to keep my existing reactions etc. rather than start from scratch. # Multi-System Reactor template docker-compose.yml (version 22160) # # Change the lines indicated by "DO"... # services: reactor: container_name: reactor environment: # DO change the TZ: line to set your local time zone. # See valid TZ list: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tz_database_time_zones TZ: GB # # DO NOT change this path. That's right.

                Using a Vera Multistring plugin device.

                I added these in the rules Reaction to send the values to the generic sensor device in Vera etc.

                Just need to translate codes 200 and 620 to "On" and "Off" instead.

                I could maybe delete these two expressions from the rule also.

                EDIT:

                I've just seen a new field called "status" maybe I can use that instead.

                On = "OK"

                Off = "Standby"

                  I had a moment to do a quick test. Duh; I'm forgetting my own code's behavior. This is actually pretty simple. When you reset the rule, all state and expression/variable values are removed, so effectively, everything is null. When the rule is then re-evaluated, expressions are evaluated first, and since ps4wakercheck is null at that point because the action has not yet run, then ps4wakerparse is also null, so the last two expressions can't dereference through null and throw an evaluation error. This is actually all expected, correct behavior.

                  You can probably just clear these two spurious errors (caused by the reset/no data condition at rule "boot"), as they will not happen again, typically. The only other way you would see this is if the command actually fails hard in some way and produces no parseable JSON output. Then you'll get alerts again, but that's probably good because you might want to know that.

                  Another way to handle it is to simply modify the last two expressions like this:

                  • ps4powerstatus = ps4wakerparse?.statusCode
                  • ps4runningapp = ps4wakerparse?["running-app-name"]

                  The ?. and ?[ operators, described in the docs, are special coalescing versions of the standard . and [ operators that guard null on their left-hand operands. If the left-side operand value is null, the coalescing operator will simply return null and no error will be issued. I think this also makes sense in this application. These coalescing operators are provided for exactly this kind of case, so this is a perfect example of their use, and you should familiarize yourself with them (and apply them often).

                    You can map a value from one to another using a simple map object, like this:

                    mappedStatus = ( { '200': 'On', '620': 'Off' } )?[ ps4wakerparse.statusCode ] ?? "unknown"

                    Here, we create an object on the fly (the ( { ... } ) part), dereference through it using the ?[ coalesce operator, which will return null if the value of statusCode doesn't match anything in the object, and then use a final ?? coalesce operator to change an unmapped/null to the word unknown

                          So everything last night was working OK when the PS4 was turned ON.

                          I am now testing when the PS4 is OFF.

                          Some issues the shell command doesn't seem to be populating the ps4wakercheck variable for some reason and its null.

                            Make sure you restarted Reactor after installing the update. The ignore flag is in the action data (so the UI has done the right thing), but the log file content looks like an older version of the Engine running.

                                Sorry for the delay.

                                Yes its working now after restarting MSR.

                                So when the PS4 is OFF its now reporting the status correctly from the ps4-waker check variables.

                                So its working when its on and off now.

                                However I am still getting some alert errors sometimes occasionally.

                                This seems to happen if the shell command doesn't return any response on the first go, but maybe on the second attempt it works and then populates the variables OK.

                                When this happens these alerts remain in the MSR gui etc.

                                  Use your coalesce operators on those expressions to suppress the reference errors and just yield a null result.

                                    The actions in the Reaction that send the data to the Vera MutliString device, didn't have "?" in their expressions.

                                    I have just added them like this:

                                    EDIT:

                                    It doesn't like the first one " mappedstatuscode? " I've removed the question mark for that one.

                                      I've also now added a virtual switch in Vera, this works with two new MSR rules (#3 and #4).

                                      First rule (#4), that when the virtual switch it turned on or off manually in Vera / Home Remote app, it will send the appropriate power command to the ps4 via shell command:

                                      ON = ps4-waker

                                      OFF = ps4-waker standby

                                      The second rule (#3) updates the state of the Vera virtual switch, if the PS4's power is controlled by some other outside means.
                                      This rule monitors the "mappedstatuscode" expression variable, which will either say "On" or "Off" and then it adjusts the Vera virtual switch accordingly to match that current actual state of the PS4, so the virtual switch doesn't get out of sync.

                                      I am still experimenting with this, but my thinking was to have an additional "switch" in Vera / Home Remote app, to be able to manually / directly control the PS4's power (outside of a Harmony activity) as a backup switch. Say if the PS4 didn't turn on when the Harmony Activity for it was started and the other MSR rule (#1) didn't work with its attempt and didn't turn on the PS4.

                                      Although having said that, I guess some kind of test and retry (in rule #1) to attempt to turn on the PS4 power again, might be a better way of doing it, if it failed to do so initially.

                                      So in total I currently have four rules.

                                      1. "Lounge - Harmony PS4 Activity Start - Wake PS4 Shell Command"

                                      Turns on PS4 when Harmony Activity is starting.

                                      628b1cb3-f4d5-4f42-b8c3-874d7628d864-image.png

                                      1. "PS4 Waker Check"

                                      This is the rule with all the expressions in it for the MultiString Vera device. Displays the PS4's current status etc

                                      994a2943-02b4-4fb4-b62e-643dcae82d13-image.png

                                      1. "Playstation 4 Virtual Switch Status from PS4-Waker"

                                      Controls the virtual switch in Vera based on the actual state of the PS4 power, info as coming from ps4-waker check and rule #2

                                      83635ed0-28ed-41cb-83d3-878ebc2ff022-image.png

                                      1. "Playstation 4 Virtual Switch ON / OFF"

                                      Sends either the on or off shell commands to the PS4 based on the virtual switch in Vera / Home Remote app being manually operated.

                                      9cdccbd5-1f55-4ad3-b0b2-4782061b969c-image.png

                                      I am sure there must be better / easier ways of doing all this.

                                        This seems to happen if the shell command doesn't return any response on the first go

                                        Have you figured out what ps4-waker does when it doesn't get the device turned on? Does it return a particular exit code that isn't used by the on/off status result? Or does it just give an empty reply? Either way, you might write a wrapper script to detect that and retry (Reactor would then start the wrapper script instead of ps4-waker directly.

                                          I'm not sure, I will look out for when it happens again.

                                          I think it makes MSR error when it tries to send the "ps4-waker" command to turn ON the games console but fails to connect for whatever reason.

                                          Most times it works and the console does turn on but sometimes it doesn't.

                                          Thanks
